I’ve been working on this project for a while now, and I’ve hinted at this a few times. I’ve had many of you, and I mean many of you, ask for something like this for many years. It took us a while, but we’ve finally finished it.
Next week, we will be going live with The Alpha 2.0 Community; a social network featuring forums, blogs, profiles, user-customizable groups, messaging, and a bunch of other stuff you guys have been asking for.
It’s a place where men all over the world can come together to discuss anything under the Alpha 2.0 rainbow, as described in my Alpha Male 2.0 book, including topics such as:
- Location independent businesses – Setting them up, marketing, products, niching, pricing, etc.
- Women – Pickup, dating, nonmonogamous relationship management, etc.
- Financial management – Investing, taxes, cost of living, etc.
- Fitness – Not my area, but this was included by popular demand.
- Lifestyle and Travel – Traveling abroad, living abroad, travel hacks, Five Flags, etc.
The community will include:
The Alpha 2.0 Blog – A public blog where members can give advice, opinions, and stories on Alpha 2.0 lifestyle topics. Guys like you with advice to give or stories to tell will be able to make posts on this blog and receive comments from others.
The Alpha 2.0 Community Forums – Several public forums, broken down by the above listed topics (business, investing, women, etc). They will be public, but only members can make posts. There are also private forums, viewable for members only and not indexed by Google.
User Groups – Anyone in the community can form their own groups on any sub-topic they wish. Examples would be Spanish-speaking Alpha 2.0’s, groups specifically for backpackers, or for older guys, or whatever you like. Each group will have their own members and their own forum, which means, yes, you can create and manage your own forum. And for free. Pretty damn cool.
Your Profile – You’ll have your own profile, just like on any other social network. You can decide if your profile is public or private, and you can use your real name or an alias. It’s all completely up to you. You’ll have your own friends within the community, your own feed, your own posting wall, etc. There is a messaging system, and there is also a badge system for certain groups of members, but I’ll let you guys decide how that all works.
Over time we will be adding more features if the size of the membership warrants it.
This Community Is About YOU, Not Me
As you know, I already have a full calendar and I cannot take on any more regular work. This means that I will not be providing regular content to this community. The content I provide will be the same content I always provide: this blog, the CJ Blog, and my books. My content at these places will continue as normal, every week, without interruption until the year 2024 at the earliest. That’s the commitment I made to my audience a long time ago, and I always follow through on my commitments.
This public, free community, on the other hand, is about you guys. You must provide the content. You must provide the advice. You must ask the questions. You must provide the stories. You must introduce the topics you want to focus on.
I’ve spent my own money to get the site up and running, provide the traffic, set up the framework, make sure the technical side works smoothly, and I will certainly pop in every once and a while and make comments, but YOU need to provide the content and activity. This is not a place were you’ll get further access to me personally (if you want that, join my membership program or purchase some coaching). Instead, this is a place where you get further access to like-minded men like yourself who want (or already have) the same lifestyle you want, without being limited in the way you communicate with each other (like here at this blog).
This will be a community of men who are working towards building an Alpha Male 2.0 lifestyle (as described in The Unchained Man) or have already accomplished doing so; helping each other, supporting each other, bouncing ideas off each other, and enabling all of us become more successful. If instead you’re expecting to sit back and have me or others provide the content, this community will fail, and I’ll just shut it down and move on.
I’ve already done the hard part and built the framework of what it means to live an Alpha 2.0 life, and me and my team have set up a very nice social media site for you to congregate. Next week when I open the site up to everyone, it will be up to you to take that framework and build the community.
To that end, I need to see at least 400 men sign up to the community within the first few weeks (it will be free to sign up), along with active participation in the blog and the forums there. Based on the traffic my web sites currently get, there should be no reason not to get 1000 men signed up pretty quickly, so I’m being nice by only expecting 400.
If we don’t get at least 400 very fast, or if we get 400 but then no one does anything, then I’ll assume you guys aren’t interested in this, and I’ll just shut it all down and move on.
So, it’s all up to you to join, participate, and spread the word. We’ll open the site to the public next week and announce the URL. Get ready.
We Need Content Creators, Managers, and Mods
If you would like to give advice to men all over the world about how to improve, now’s your chance to shine. Email me and let me know if you would like to be:
1. A blog contributor. You would write articles, one or many, on any Alpha 2.0 topic you like, for the Alpha 2.0 Blog. Number needed: 5
2. A manager. You would help run the site, manage users, field site questions, etc. A decent amount of computer literacy is required (though the system we’re using is very simple and straightforward), and I have to know you somewhat, from this blog or from some other site; you can’t be a complete stranger to me. Number needed: 2
3. A moderator. You would help moderate the forums. You need to be a fair, calm, level-headed, objective guy. Number needed: 2
Email me and let me know if you’d like to do any of the above. I’ll give you special status on the site if you do.
Questions and Answers
Over the last few weeks, we’ve had about 30 guys in the site poking around, testing everything, and making suggestions. Based on their questions and feedback, here are the answers to the questions I think most of you will have:
Is it free to sign up?
Yes. Anyone in the world can sign up for free.
Is this one of those things where it’s free at first and later you’ll charge for it?
No. It will always be free. Eventually I will place ads on the site in order to pay its expenses.
However, I’m open to suggestions on allowing “special” groups who get extra access or goodies for a fee. I have a few ideas but I really want the guys in the community to make these decisions and suggestions.
I’m worried about my privacy. How public will it be?
Your profile can be public or private; you choose.
The blog, comments on the blog, and the public forums will be viewable to the public, but the public cannot post comments. There is currently one private forum that will not be viewable to the public at all, nor indexed by Google. If there is enough demand (and if enough guys sign up), we can and will open up more private forums.
You can also make your own private forum by creating your own Alpha 2.0 group. The group forum features are very rich; you can actually design your own group site with individual pages and mark your forum as private, public, or private to group members only (which is the default).
Will there be some kind of tier levels for users?
Yes, but I’ll let the community members decide what those should be, if any.
Currently, the only level we have is for Elite Member; those members who are already in my SMIC podcast/coaching program. I will also create some kind of Staff Member level for contributors, mods, etc. New badges/levels can certainly be created based on member feedback.
Did you design this site from scratch or use an existing system/framework?
We used an existing framework, one that is actually designed for social networks, hosted at their location, and is actively updated and managed. I know from past experience in owning a forum that hosting your own forum software is a huge pain in the ass. This new system is much cleaner and easier to manage, since the hosting company does most of the work. I can’t tell you what the backbone is yet; I will next week though.
Can we talk about politics and stuff like that?
The answer is “sort of.”
There is one subforum for politics and off-topic stuff, however, this community is not going to be a bitch-session about SJW’s or MGTOW’s or feminists or whatever. There are plenty of those kinds of sites all over the manosphere and I have no interest in making another one. This community is about SELF IMPROVEMENT, not complaining. The manosphere has more than enough complaining already.
One of the biggest concerns with guys who helped design this community is that they wanted to focus on actionable advice to make their lives better, not bitching about politics, and I agree with them completely.
So we will allow a little of this stuff in the off-topic forum, but if it gets out of hand, we’ll disallow those “bitch about it” topics.
So we can talk about business stuff too?
YES! This is not a pickup forum! This is a full Alpha Male 2.0 lifestyle community. I actually think finances and business is more important than sex or women (though sex and women are important too!), so there are large portions of the site devoted to business, finance, career, investing, etc. I love talking about that stuff and I hope you do too! It’s critically important to the free and happy Alpha Male 2.0.
Are you going to have the same posting rules there as you do at his blog, like no personal attacks?
No. I will not be running or moderating the Alpha 2.0 Community (outside of the first few weeks, just to get things rolling). I don’t have time to do this. I think the minimum number of rules is best, but I’m going to leave that up to the managers and mods. My personal opinion is that “light” ad homimen should be allowed, particularly if it includes real constructive criticism and/or actual points, but guys who outright troll / bitch / attack with no actual points should be banned. It’s not up to me though; I want someone else to handle the specifics.
How do you expect to make money from this? I can’t believe you would do all this for free.
Correct, I wouldn’t. Everything I do here is to make money, and this community is no exception.
I don’t expect to make any money directly from the site. Indirectly, my hope is that the site does okay in terms of membership and traffic and eventually gives my materials more exposure, thus increasing sales of my stuff. I watch my monthly traffic and sales reports every month like a hawk, and I’ll know fast if the community is helping or not.
I also have some other ideas about future stuff there that I can charge for, like online Alpha 2.0 conference calls and/or business or dating courses. But that’s going to be down the road. Let’s see how many guys sign up and contribute to the community first.
And like I said, if not enough men sign up and contribute to the blogs, forums, and groups, I’ll just dump the site and move on. Again, whether or not this community thrives is up to you.
Are women allowed?
I wrestled with this question. Since I didn’t have a definitive answer, I asked my core team of guys.
The consensus seemed to be to allow women, but to watch them very carefully and ban them instantly if they don’t play by the rules, or if they just bitch and complain. That’s what the policy will be, though over time we may adjust this.
So for the moment, yes, women are allowed, but if you’re a girl and you sign up, you’d better be supportive of the Alpha 2.0 concepts or you’re gone, with no warnings. This is a community for men, so you’re here at our pleasure.
Does this mean you’re going to close down your other forums?
The private SMIC forum will remain, and I will continue to post there regularly as usual.
The Sedfast/NextASF/Fasterseduction forum will also remain. I don’t read or post over there, but I’ll keep that forum running as long as there is activity.
If there are any more questions about the Alpha 2.0 Community, just let me know in the comments. I will announce the site URL next week, so stay tuned!
UPDATE 3/16/17 11:55am PST – I’m getting a lot of response in my email about this, more than I thought I would get. That’s great! A few of you have asked some more questions that I will post here:
If I write an article for the blog, will I be able to link back to my website?
Yes! As long as your content is compatible with Alpha 2.0 concepts in some way (business, fitness, women, freedom, etc), I’m happy to let you do that as long as you don’t try to “sell” your stuff in the article you write.
What other benefits to blog contributors get besides upgraded status on the site?
Mainly, exposure. The Alpha 2.0 Blog is literally the home (landing) page of the entire site, so as a blog contributor, you’ll get much more exposure than other members. I’m wide open to suggestions on other perks Contributors receive; it’s really up to you guys. Remember, this community is for you; let me know what you think.
Are topics related to things like inner game, attitude, and societal pressures allowed?
Absolutely!!! Those are critically important issues to the modern man and are certainly allowed (even encouraged) on the blog and in the forums.
Update 3/19/17 6:44pm PST – Response for blog contributors has been overwhelming and we are now at capacity and can’t take any more at the moment. We’ve set up a waiting list for those inquiries that are still coming in, so if you’re still interested in contributing to the blog, feel free to email me and let me know; it’s just that we have a full posting schedule now and you will need to wait a few weeks before we can actually publish your submission even if we accept it for the blog. I’m very pleased with this level of response and it looks like setting up this community was something you guys really wanted. I will continue to post more news about this as it develops. I will announce the URL of the community here at this blog on Thursday morning, March 23rd (PST). Thanks for all of your enthusiasm and assistance guys. Very cool.
